The Pierrefitte plant was built in 1912 by Société Pyrénéenne du Silico Manganèse, producing since then various types of ferroalloys and silicon alloy. Since 1981 it has specialized in the production of inoculants through carbothermal reduction of quartz. Since 2011 it has also been specializing in the remelting and treatment of Ferrosilicon and Silicon.
